Don't kiss your chances goodbye

Many times each day I am approached by other entrepreneurs who want me to join their company with them.  Ninety eight percent of the time I am seriously annoyed.

Times have changed in the way people market their business.  Just a few years ago you could post ads all over the internet and your inbox would be flooded with people messaging you for more information on what you’re doing. Now, things are different.  You can spends hours a day posting ads all over the internet and get ZERO response from your efforts.

So what is working?

The answer and methods are simple; relationship building and attraction marketing.  When it comes down to it, people join people, not companies.

Think about it.  If you were a door to door salesperson selling vacuum cleaners and you went into someone’s home to present your product to them, what are the chances that they buy a vacuum from you if you barely said a word? Even though you might have the greatest vacuum ever, in order to get them to buy it you need to build a rapport with them, get to know them and get them to like and trust YOU.

The same goes for this industry.  You want to take the time to get to know someone because if you shove your business in someone’s face right away before taking the time to build a rapport with them, you can kiss your chances goodbye.

In some of my Facebook group that I am a member of, I hear people say “There is no selling in my business.”  I want to laugh when I hear that because honestly you need to sell yourself to your prospects in order for them to join you.  You want them to see what YOU have to offer and why YOU are the person they should join with.   So again it comes back to that relationship building.  Ultimately that person wants to know who they are joining with and that you have their best interest at heart and that you’ll be there for them.

So I want you to try this.  Instead of posting an ad on the internet or even your Facebook page, go to your Facebook page, if you have one and message 3 separate people who are not in the same company as you and who you haven’t talk with in a while.  In the message simply say something like “Hi (their first name).  It’s been a while.  How are you?”  Start building a relationship with them, catch up, see what they’re up to and eventually it come full circle where you’re able to talk about your business with them.  It might not happen right away and that is alright.  Keep going back to them and keep that connection going.

Why to use LinkedIn

Why use LinkedIn??
LinkedIn is best compared to an online resume. People will be able to check out the work you’ve done, where you are now, see your connections and your recommendations from others.
Where to start?
After signing up at www.LinkedIn.com, the first and one of the most important things you want to do is complete your profile. If you don't have a complete profile, you're not going to get anywhere with it so be sure to fill it out completely.
Check out my profile at www.LinkedIn.com/in/LauraGelnett
What’s Next?
Now that your profile is created you need to add contacts to your profile. To start you can search for people you know like friends, family, and co-workers. Connections will help you to meet other people which will ultimately introduce you to people that will help you grow your business or they'll help you possible prospects.
After you have added all the contacts you have it's time to join groups so you can find more people to add. You'll want to join groups that are related to your business or the type of work you do for a living. You'll want to communicate with people and network with them before you ask them to be a contact.
The last thing you need to do is ask for recommendations, but this can't happen until you add contacts. You'll want to start with people you've worked with or currently work with. By having recommendations, people who are looking at your profile will get to more insight into who you are and what type of work ethics you have.
LinkedIn is a very good social networking site and it's one you should use no matter if you run a business and you're looking for new customers or clients or if you have a job and you're looking for a new one. You'll want to visit your LinkedIn profile daily, kind of like we do out Facebook pages, and make posts both on your profile page and the groups you're a part of. People will begin to trust you and they'll want connect with you and see how you can help them with their needs

How to Write Your Online Bio

Have you ever wondered if people take the time to read your bio and get to know you? Your bio is the first impression people are going to see of you, so make it a GOOD one.

It is important to learn how to write a bio that will grab people’s attention. I have read lots of bios were I think people, as they were writing their bio, subconsciously thought “what’s in this for me?” or “what can I get out of this?” or “they push their opportunity too much.” That is not what you want! You need to grab people’s attention and then keep it throughout. This is your bio, but it should have an underlying feeling of value and benefit to your readers and no push or hype up your opportunity.

Your Opening Statement
Your opening statement needs to be strong and needs to keep people wanting to know you. Try to think of something catchy that peaks the readers curiosity. Make it powerful and do your best to include some benefit to your reader within the first paragraph.

Your Introduction
Now you want to create your introduction. This is where you connect with your reader and let them know a little about you. I found that the best strategy is to simply tell your story. Tell them who you are. Don’t write out your entire life story; just tell them a little about you… your name, age, where you come from, your previous jobs or career, your hopes and dreams… Tell them relevant things about you that can help others relate with you, like your goals, interests, and commonalities. Let them get to know about you, your background, and the experiences you have been through that led you to be involved in what you are currently doing.

How Can You Benefit Them?
Alright, now we have grabbed people’s attention with an opening paragraph, we have given an introduction into our lives and connected with our readers. Now, you what to give them a reason to relate to you. How can you help them? They are most likely going to contact you if they relate with you and you have built that online trust just from your bio.

What are you all about?
Now it is time to give a call to action. When putting together the aspects of how to write a bio that fits for you, I think you will find that using a call to action in one form or another will help keep your readers engaged through till the last sentence. Let them know that you understand and relate to the problem they are facing and the situation they are in because you’ve been there too and you know where they want to be, which of course is on the other side of that problem.
This is where your new skills of how to write a bio all come together so DO NOT pitch your business; just try to think along the lines of… I was like you (struggling, etc…), then I did this…(made change), now I am where you want to be (happier, richer, thinner, freer, etc…) And you can do or have this too by (taking desired action). Don’t mention your specific company or product, just keep it simple and be genuine by saying something like “I’m getting great results with this…, go here to check it out.”

This should spur your imagination and give you many great ideas on how to write a bio that will help pre-qualify prospects while finding the people that relate to you best and also the people you would most like to work with.
